Encoder
An encoder is a measurement transmitter based on optical or magnetic principles. In measurement technology, they are for example used in draw-wire sensors. Here, they convert a rotational movement into an electrical signal. Since straight-line motion is normally involved with draw-wire sensors, they are designated as linear encoders. There are rotary encoders for rotating movements.
